Terms and conditions
- The Promoter
1.1 The promoter is: Elevate Great (registered as ‘Cattanach SCIO’) (registration no. SC049833) who are an independent Scottish charitable incorporated organisation, whose registered office is Mansfield Traquair Centre, 15 Mansfield Place, Edinburgh, EH3 6BB and whose website is: https://www.cattanach.org.uk/ (“Website”).
- The Competition
2.1 The title of the Competition is “The Elevate Great AI Awards”.
2.2 The purpose of the Competition is to inform, educate and encourage innovation amongst undergraduate and postgraduate taught university students regarding Artificial Intelligence tools and developments in the context of the early years.
2.3 Entry into the Competition commences at: 12:00pm on Monday 20th January 2025. Entries for the first part of the Competition (“Stage 1”) shall close at 11:59pm on Monday 3rd March 2025, or such later date as we may decide and notify to you (“Submission Closing Date”) and the final winner(s) of the Competition shall be announced before 12:00pm on Monday 30th June 2025, or such later date as we may decide and notify to you, (“the Announcement Date”) when the Competition will close (together “the Competition Period”).
- How to enter
3.1 The Competition will run for the duration of the Competition Period. Entries to the Competition received after this time will not be permitted.
3.2 The Competition is a judged competition based on the entrant’s skills, knowledge and submissions and chance plays no part in determining the winner(s).
3.3 The Competition entries will be judged by a panel of judges comprising industry experts and innovators and will be based on originality, creativity and suitability, or as otherwise specified by the Promoter (in the Promoter’s sole and absolute discretion) (“the Judging Criteria”). The Judging Criteria will also be published and made readily available to view on the Website. Entrants are encouraged to be innovative with their submissions. The decision of the panel of judges (acting reasonably) will be final.
3.4 There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this Competition.
3.5 To enter the Competition, each entrant must, during the Competition Period:
3.5.1 Stage 1
(a) Visit the Website, complete and submit the online entry form (“the Registation Form”) provided on the Website and register their details in the manner required and submit the following:
(i) a vision statement of 1000 words or less answering the question:
“Describe a ‘day in the life’ of a child in 2029, from birth to age five, focusing on their interactions with artificial intelligence and how these shape their relationships with key caregivers. Consider the following:
-
- What role AI plays in the child’s daily routine and developmental milestones (including the impact on their emotional connections, cognitive development, and physical well-being); and
- How AI influences the child’s interactions with parents, caregivers, professionals, and other important figures in their life.”
(ii) A report proposal of 500 words or less which does the following:
-
- Identifies an AI-related opportunity to positively influence, directly or indirectly, key aspects of child development (e.g. relationships, social, emotional growth, cognitive growth, or physical health) during the critical period from birth to age five;
- Provides solutions that either demonstrate how AI can be used beneficially in such context or which proposes ways to address or mitigate the risks associated with AI; and
- Describes how you or your team plan to further develop this idea, highlighting the expertise or experience which you or your team bring.
- (b) All Competition entries must be received by the Promoter by way of the Registration Form by no later than the Submission Closing Date. All Competition entries received after the Submission Closing Date will be automatically disqualified.
(c) All valid Website entries received during the Competition Period will be individually judged by representatives of the Promoter based on the Judging Criteria.
(d) The Promoter will select up to 10 entries deemed to be the ‘best’ based on the Judging Criteria, in the Promoter’s sole and absolute discretion and/or its representatives acting on its behalf and these entrants will progress onto the next stage of the Competition (“Stage 2”).
(e) Unsuccessful applicants from Stage 1 will start being notified by email from 12:00pm on Monday 17th March 2025, or as soon as reasonably practicable.
3.5.2 Stage 2
(a) Successful applicants who progressed from Stage 1, in accordance with condition 3.5.1 (d), will progress to Stage 2. Such applicants, must then submit both:
(b) a report of 5000 words or less which does the following:
- Identifies an AI-related opportunity to positively or negatively, directly or indirectly, impact key aspects of child development during the critical first years of a child’s life (i.e. birth to age five);
- Identifies an AI-related opportunity that could positively or negatively influence one or more aspects of child development (e.g. relationships, social, emotional, or cognitive growth, and physical health);
- Proposes solutions that either demonstrate how AI can be used to benefit child development in this context, or addresses and mitigates any risks associated with the use of AI;
- Describes the expected positive outcomes of implementing your solution for child development; and
- Considers the potential barriers to the proposed solution(s), including regulatory, social, economic, or other factors.
(c) a recorded pitch of no more than three minutes:
- The pitch shall build on the key points of the report provided at Stage 1 and explain why the solution(s) outlined in the report are important and how they effectively address the core issues identified.
- Delivery of the pitch must be by way of PowerPoint presentation, with a recorded voiceover. Whilst the pitch may be accompanied by presentation slides, entrants are encouraged to focus primarily on the content of their pitch.
(d) All report and pitch submissions received from the successful entrants of Stage 1 during the Competition Period will be individually judged by representatives of the Promoter based on the Judging Criteria.
(e) The Promoter will then select up to 3 entries deemed to be the ‘best’ (based on the Judging Criteria, in the Promoter’s sole and absolute discretion and/or its representatives acting on its behalf) and these entrants will progress onto the final stage of the Competition (“Stage 3”).
(f) Unsuccessful applicants from Stage 2 will start being notified by email from 12:00pm on Monday 19th May 2025, or as soon as reasonably practicable.
3.5.3 Stage 3
(a) The final successful entrants must then deliver the pitch which they proposed at Stage 2 of the Competition in a 15 minute online presentation which will comprise the following:
-
- Delivery of a pitch summarising the issue(s) identified, and the solution(s) proposed at Stage 2, which should be a refined version of the written report provided at Stage 2, incorporating the input received by the panel of judges.
- Whilst the pitch may can be accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation, entrants are encouraged to focus primarily on the content of their pitch.
- A Q&A session will follow on from delivery of the pitch, whereby the entrants will be required to answer questions relating to both the presentation delivered, as well as the report provided at Stage 2.
(together the “the Online Event (Pitch and Q&A)”).
(b) The Online Event (Pitch and Q&A) will be held on Tuesday 17th June 2025, or such later time and date otherwise specified by the Promoter.
(c) In determining the winner(s), the Promoter or its representatives acting on its behalf, will then select one top entry from the three finalists from Stage 2, whom the panel of judges (acting on behalf of the Promoter), deem to have delivered the ‘best’ pitch and presentation at the Online Event (Pitch and Q&A) (based on the Judging Criteria, in the Promoter’s sole and absolute discretion and/or its representatives acting on its behalf.
3.6 The Promoter will not accept:
(a)Responsibility for Competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
(b) Proof of transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the Competition.
3.7 By submitting a Competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

- Eligibility
4.1 The Competition is only open to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who are currently enrolled and studying at a recognised university within the United Kingdom except:
(a) employees of the Promoter;
(b) employees of agents or suppliers of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the Competition or its administration;
(c) or members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.
4.2 Any entrants under the age of 18, must obtain written parental or guardian consent to enter and claim the prize. The Promoter may ask the winning entrants to provide proof of age.
4.3 Entrants can either enter individually or as a team of up to five individuals. For the avoidance of doubt a team submission will count as one entry. In entering the Competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and are eligible to claim any prize you may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the Competition.
4.4 Where entering as a team, in the event that any of the team members should withdraw from the Competition at any stage, the remaining team member(s), if their entry is selected, shall be entitled to continue to participate in the Competition, absent of their prior team members. Any team member(s) who withdraw from the Competition shall forfeit their eligibility to receive any prize(s) that form part of the Competition.
4.5 The Promoter will not accept Competition entries that are:
(a) automatically generated by computer or created by artificial intelligence (including but not limited to chatbots such as ChatGPT or similar software applications);
(b) completed by third parties or in bulk;
(c) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with; and/or
(d) incomplete.
4.6 There is a limit for entry into the Competition of either (i) one entry per person (where entering as an individual); or (ii) one entry per team. For the avoidance of doubt, an entrant cannot enter the Competition multiple times, entering both as an individual and as part of a team.
4.7 The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you or your team if any of yours or any of your team’s conduct is deemed to act contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize Competition or otherwise in breach of these terms and conditions.
- The prize
5.1 The prizes shall consist of:5.1.1 Stage 2 – Semi-Final prizes
5.1.1.1 A cash prize of £100 per individual. For the avoidance of doubt, where entering as a team, each team member would receive £100 respectively.5.1.2 Stage 3 – Final prizes
5.1.2.1 The cash prizes will be awarded as follows:
(a) First Place entrant
-
- £5,000 where entering as an individual; or
- £5,000 to be divided equally between the team. For example, £1,000 per person where entering as a team of five
- An exciting opportunity to collaborate with the Promotor and other sector specialists and professionals in the future
(b) Second Place entrant
-
- £2,500 where entering as an individual; or
- £2,500 to be divided equally between the team. For example, £500 per person where entering as a team of five
(c) Third Place entrant
-
- £1,500 where entering as an individual; or
- £1,500 to be divided equally between the team. For example, £300 per person where entering as a team of five
5.2 Some of the Competition prizes are subject to availability and the financial position of the Promoter. If for any reason the financial position of the Promoter changes to the extent that it is not possible to award a cash prize, the Promoter will notify all entrants in writing without delay.
5.3 The cash prizes will be electronically transferred after Stage Three of the Competition, into the successful semi-finalists and finalists nominated bank account(s).
5.4 The Promoter reserves the right to either (i) discontinue a prize or (ii) replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or lower value if circumstances beyond the Promoter’s control makes it necessary to do so.
5.5 The prize is not negotiable, transferable or exchangeable.
5.6 In order to claim the prize, you or your team would need to have been determined by the Promoter, or its representatives acting on its behalf, as having successfully completed the relevant stage of the Competition, as specified at condition 3.5 of these terms and conditions.
- Winners
6.1 The decision of the judges nominated by the Promoter is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
6.2 The Promoter will contact the winner(s) as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the telephone number or email address provided on their Registation Form.
6.3 The Promoter must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation the Promoter will publish the surname and country of the prize winner(s) and, if applicable, their winning entries on the Website on the Announcement Date.
6.4 If you object to any or all of your surname, country and winning entry being published or made available, please contact and inform the Promoter. In such circumstances, the Promoter must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.
- Claiming the prize
7.1 If you are announced as the winner(s) of the prize, you will have 28 days from the announcement by the Promoter to claim the prize. If you do not claim the prize by this date, your claim will become invalid. Please allow 14 days (from the point which you provide your nominated bank account details to the Promoter) for delivery of the cash prize.
7.2 The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.
7.3 The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available or has not claimed their prize within 28 of days of the Announcement Date, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Announcement Date.
7.4 The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you or your team are not able to take up the prize.
- Limitation of liability
8.1 Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner(s) or accept any liability for any loss or damage occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
8.2 The Promoter is not responsible for any tax implications that may arise from the prize winnings. Independent financial advice should be sought.
- Ownership of Competition entries and intellectual property rights
9.1 All Competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned.
9.2 By submitting your Competition entry and any accompanying material, you agree to:
(a) assign absolutely to the Promoter all your intellectual property rights (which shall include patents, rights to and in inventions, copyright and related rights, trade marks, business names and domain names, rights in get-up, goodwill and accrued rights to sue for passing off rights in designs, database rights, rights in confidential information (including know-how and trade secrets) and all other intellectual property rights, in each case whether registered or unregistered and including all applications and rights to apply for and be granted, renewals or extensions of, and rights to claim priority from, such rights and all similar or equivalent rights or forms of protection which subsist or will subsist now or in the future in any part of the world, held whether solely or jointly, in the Competition entry with full title guarantee); and
(b) waive absolutely all moral rights and all rights to be identified and acknowledged as the author, in and to your Competition entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry to which you may now or at any time in the future be entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.
- Data protection and publicity
10.1 The Promoter will only process your personal information in accordance with its administration of the Competition and the prize as set out in its Privacy Policy. See also 6.3 and 6.4, with regard to the announcement of the winner(s).
- General
11.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions by you, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the Competition.
11.2 The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize Competition where it becomes necessary to do so.
11.3 If a dispute arises out of or in connection with these terms and conditions or the performance, validity or enforceability of it (“the Dispute”) then the parties shall follow the procedure set out in this clause:
(a) either party shall give to the other written notice of the Dispute, setting out its nature and full particulars (“the Dispute Notice”), together with relevant supporting documents. On service of the Dispute Notice, the parties shall together attempt in good faith to resolve the Dispute within 30 days of receiving the Dispute Notice;
(b) if the parties are for any reason unable to resolve the Dispute within the 30 day period, the parties will attempt to settle it by mediation in accordance with the CEDR Model Mediation Procedure. Unless otherwise agreed between the parties, the mediator shall be nominated by CEDR. To initiate the mediation, a party must serve notice in writing (“the ADR Notice”) to the other party to the Dispute, requesting a mediation. A copy of the ADR Notice should be sent to CEDR. Unless otherwise agreed between the parties, the mediation will start not later than 28 days after the date of the ADR Notice.
11.4 The commencement of mediation shall not prevent the parties commencing or continuing court proceedings in relation to the Dispute and condition 11.6 of these terms and conditions which shall apply at all times.
11.5 If the Dispute is not resolved within 90 days after service of the ADR Notice, or either party fails to participate or to continue to participate in the mediation before the expiration of the said period of 90 days, or the mediation terminates before the expiration of the said period of 90 days, the Dispute shall be finally resolved by the courts of Scotland in accordance with condition 11.6 of these terms and conditions.
11.6 These terms and conditions are governed by Scots law. Subject to condition 11.3 of these terms and conditions, if any entrants to this Competition wish to take court proceedings, then they must do this within the courts in Scotland.
